Fearful dogs require training, not petting

by Steph Mahrle

Do you have a fearful dog? If so, take a moment to consider that feeling sorry for your dog, and petting your dog in a fearful state of mind is likely not ever going to lead your dog out of a fearful state of mind. Structure, and leadership provided by you to your dog WILL give your dog the ability to build confidence, and lead themselves out of their fearful behavior. Think about that concept the next time you attempt to apologetically snuggle your shaking dog during a thunderstorm. You will get what you pet.
